The Sororities series play tribute to the legacy and ongoing work of these women organizations in growing powerful and proud generations of women. The collection is crafted tapping into the sororities’ colors.

First stop is AKA, founded in 1908 on the campus of historically black college, Howard University. The commitment is to be “Supreme In Service To All Mankind.” Notable members include Toni Morrison, VP Kamala Harris and Rosa Parks.

The earrings are handcrafted using vintage elements including enameled brass, lucite or fashion buttons. All hooks and jump rings are hypoallergenic and new.

As we work primarily with vintage elements, each style can only be done once or twice at the moment making them truly unique.

Inspiration

This collection was born out of the pandemic. Soumountha says: 'I have accepted recently to let go of any of my plans as really everything could go further down any day. I have learned to listen to calls and answer them. My hard-working girlfriends did call and challenged me to make earrings:

-‘I need something to frame the face for those day long Zoom meetings !!!

- ‘I have an addiction so make it happen, girl!’ So I decided, why the heck not? What women want...right?

I do refuse to buy any new materials these days. It is all about upcycling for me. With vintage materials that I was kindly given some time ago and other materials I have sourced in the US, I therefore created - I hope - a fun and affordable earring collection that every woman can show off with those masks or during those Zoom badass meetings!'

Made in: all earring are designed and assembled in New York. Design elements have various origins but we are primarily sourcing from US suppliers.

Care instructions: Wipe clean with a soft cloth.

Fit & Construction

We have used a quarter to show the scale of the earrings.

Each piece is handmade using vintage materials and thus can sometimes present some light blemishes. Each pair will be different from the next one. This is not a defect but the result of our choice to upcycle vintage materials.
